This month in training: June 2023

A very smiley Orbit has been on his first train journey, magical Merlin has been shopping, and puppy Flapjack has been learning his 'sit' and 'wait'.

1. Say hello Jenna

Everyone meet Jenna, Jenna meet everyone.

Jenna is an eight-week-old cocker spaniel puppy, who is just about to start her early hearing dog training.

The early stages will see Jenna learn her basic cues like 'sit' and 'wait', and, of course, have as much fun as possible!

2. Awesome Orbit

A hearing dog might accompany their partner on public transport, so it's important they are relaxed with the experience.

Orbit did brilliantly and will build on this journey with another one soon.

3. A spot of shopping for miniature poodle Merlin

Magical Merlin has been to a shopping centre as he continues his training in public places.

Merlin did brilliantly in a shop environment where he met some very cuddly pigs, and he then showed off his super settle at a café. Our clever miniature poodle even experienced the unusual movements of a lift!

Merlin has taken every new environment in his stride and we are so proud of him.

4. Magic made some very unusual friends

Magic made lots of new friends during his training visit to York Art Gallery.

Hearing dogs can come across some very unusual objects when out with their deaf partner, so it's important they aren't fazed by some odd sights and sounds.

5. Flapjack is a very clever puppy

Learning patience and self-control can be tricky for a young puppy as everything around them is just so exciting.

Flapjack did a great job and he is proving to be a very quick learner.

5. All aboard for Bow

All aboard for Bow as we took a trip on a train with our very clever Labrador.

Bow is in the final stage of his hearing dog training and he is learning to be the perfect passenger.

If a deaf person uses public transport then we want their new hearing dog to be comfortable with the experience, and Bow always does brilliantly.

6. Pluto is going to be a life-changing hearing dog

Pluto has passed his final assessment to be a life-changing hearing dog!

Our very clever Labrador has been a joy to train and he has even passed on some top tips to little MJ along the way.

Congratulations to Pluto and his incredible team, who have been amazing throughout his training journey.
