If you have any questions about hearing loss, are seeking support or just need to talk to someone who understands – we can help. We offer information and guidance to those experiencing hearing loss or anyone wishing to support someone who does.

All of our Helpdesk Responders have personal or professional experience of hearing loss and they are ready to offer information, guidance, and support to help you take your next step.

Mel’s story

“I was at my wit’s end with my hearing loss and did not know where to turn to and what I could do.

“I felt that I was losing my independence as well as my hearing.

“One day I rang the Hearing Link Helpdesk, putting the telephone onto loudspeaker mode and amplifying the conversation to maximum in order to hear the lady at the other end. I just wanted someone to talk to. I did not need many words, because the lady just got it, all of it, and patiently sympathised. She just listened, through my tears, and then started to offer calm words of advice and support.

“On learning that I didn’t wear my hearing aids, that they sat in their box in a cupboard, she kindly advised that I get them out and wear them. She suggested I contact my local sensory services department when I told her I had no assistive devices in the home.  Finally, she said that she would arrange for me to meet up with one of Hearing Link’s community support volunteers who would be able to offer face to face support.

“Her words changed my life. I can’t remember what they were exactly. Only that they made a difference, changed my mindset and encouraged me to embrace and overcome the challenges of deafness. 

“The Helpdesk has a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience of hearing difficulties and the day to day challenges that this brings – its volunteers know exactly how you feel.”
