Tim & Linda's Volunteering Story
Posted by Victoria Leedham
Tim and Linda from Tyne and Wear, have been volunteering with us since October 2016. As volunteer puppy trainers, they have seen a pup through it's socialisation and basic training, all the way to it's soundwork training.
"We just love having a puppy around the house all of the time. When one leaves us it is a very sad day but then another bundle of fluff who doesn’t even know their name arrives and we start the training again. There isn’t a day that goes by when the puppy doesn’t make us laugh. And because they are trainee assistance dogs, they go wherever we go: restaurants, hotels, pubs, shops, cafés, business meetings." Tim and Linda commented.
Cady, our first pup (pictured below) is an absolute joy and is out working as a brilliant hearing dog. Linda laughs at her favourite memory of Cady; "the moment that she arrived at our home at age eight weeks her first reaction was to roll over on her back to get her tummy tickled!"
Tim & Linda are now training their 2nd Labrador, Velvet. When asked how they would encourage someone to volunteer, the couple said; "If you think that you’ll enjoy having puppies (one at a time!) and training them to go on to undertake the important work of giving a deaf person a real quality of life, then volunteering with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is definitely for you".
