Specsavers Life-Changing Hearing Dog of the Year Award

The winner of the Specsavers Life-Changing Hearing Dog of the Year Award 2017 is Louise Pocock and her hearing dog Tapper – who has supported Louise after the tragic loss of her son Ben onboard flight MH17.

This loyal and sensitive Cocker Spaniel has been by Louise's side as she has coped with the aftermath of losing Ben. Since arriving at Louise's home, Tapper has given constant emotional and practical support to Louise and her whole family.

Louise said:

“After we lost Ben, my daughter Emily and husband Jeremy could see I wasn’t really getting out and they suggested a hearing dog.

“Emily and Jeremy arranged for Tapper to arrive on my birthday, and as soon as I met Tapper I could see he was a lovely dog.

“Loyal and loveable, Tapper seems to know when I’m down. He just comes and taps me for attention and I think to myself ‘yes I’m feeling better, let’s move on’.

“I’d be in a darker place without Tapper.”
