Eleanor's Volunteering Story

Eleanor Medlock, from our Southampton puppy hub, has been volunteering as a volunteer puppy trainer for just over two years now and has absolutely loved her time so far. "I have always loved dogs (I have a pet dog) and love animals so much so that I have applied to study veterinary medicine in September 2018! I met a puppy trainer whilst walking with my pet dog and the idea seemed like a good one. I realise the massive impact my pet dog had on my life and so helping the same change happen to someone else was a great opportunity!" Eleanor said.

Eleanor has enjoyed making new friendships with like-minded people (dog-mad!) and learning from other volunteers that she works alongside. Her Hearing Dog pup Suzie and her pet-dog have become the best of friends, with Suzie definitely being the boss - despite being 5 years younger! "As for Suzie…you had better never leave any socks around as they will definitely disappear, only to be found being cuddled by Suzie on her beanbag!"

If you are contemplating becoming a volunteer puppy trainer for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People then Eleanor has some words of wisdom for you... "Definitely go for it, especially if you are a doggy person, you learn lots of new skills and you get to look after a bright, intelligent dog! It’s amazing watching the puppies use their brains and work out what they need to do themselves!"
