Let's catch up with Archie
Posted by Brendan Cooper
We showed you lots of videos of Archie last time, so here he is in another video, having fun with his tail!
So apart from enjoying his tail lots, what else has Archie been up to?
Well, he's been making new furry friends!
This is Wilbur, the pet dog of volunteers who very kindly looked after Archie when his Volunteer Puppy Trainer Victoria went on holiday. They loved each other immediately, and Wilbur very kindly gave Archie use of his nice warm bed.
This is what's so fantastic about our volunteers - they're a real network who help each other out. Holiday cover is essential: sometimes our volunteers might want to travel abroad, or go to places that might not be suitable for dogs. In these cases, lots of helping hands go up in the air to look after their puppies!
Archie has also made great friends with another local dog called Luna (not our Hearing Dogs Luna). They both look so happy, don't you think? And Luna is doing a great Tongue Out Tuesday!
Archie has also been moving full steam ahead with his training - on the trains (not steam, unfortunately).
There was a bit of a wait, to let him get used to the sights, sounds and smells.
Then the train pulled up...
... and off they went!
Archie thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
There's so much to say about these photos. They show how brilliantly he handled it all - not just going along with things, but actually loving every moment of it.
This is because he's been so very well brought up by Victoria, his Volunteer Puppy Trainer. She's made sure all his training is at his pace, not too fast, not too slow. She's very gently introduced him to the world, and as a result, he enjoys new experiences.
This will stand him in very good stead in future when he looks after a deaf person. He'll know all about trains, of course, and how to play nicely with other dogs. But he'll also be able to adapt to new environments and experiences because of this great foundation.
Oh, and the other thing to be said about those photos is: doesn't he look smart in his burgundy 'I'm learning to be a hearing dog' coat!
More training now - a visit to the vets.
After a bit of a sniff around the reception area, he was very happy to make the acquaintance, and the vet seemed happy too. More sniffing around ensued, and his natural charm meant everyone had a smile on their face.
So, what does a clever puppy get, who can travel on trains and visit the vets?
A Puppy Two Star award, of course!
We told you all about his Puppy One Star in your last training update - they're the 'milestones' we use to see how far a puppy has come. We're thrilled that he's moved ahead already, and will tell you more in the next training update.
Of course, it's not all work, work, work.
There's snooze, snooze, snooze...
... and tummy rubs, tummy rubs, tummy rubs...
... and looking cute, cute, cute!
How could you resist?
One day, his future deaf partner will have such a happy, cute, clever little dog to look after them. This will happen because of your kindness.
So, until next time, from all of us at Hearing Dogs... thank you again for sponsoring Archie! You're pawsome!
