Arthur loves his new home
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Arthur loves his new life with volunteers Liz and John.
They're going to give Arthur a lovely, warm, loving home for the next year. They'll also be training him, starting with his basic cues such as sit, down and wait, then moving on to more advanced routines. This will all be in their own time - we really could not exist without our fabulous volunteers.
But that's all in the future. Right now, Arthur has been investigating his new home and he likes what he sees!
First up, John and Liz's own pet dog, called Shep. We told you how fascinated Arthur is by Shep's tail. Well, it seems he's fascinated by the rest of Shep now!
In return, Shep stuck his tongue out at Arthur. Bit rude. But we're sure Arthur won't mind. They're best of friends really!
Arthur has also made the acquaintance of Bella the rabbit.
This time it was Arthur's turn to be a bit aloof. Do you think Bella looks surprised? Or perhaps rabbits just always look like that with those ears.
Next, and very importantly for an action hero like Arthur - the garden.
As well as looking incredibly cute among the undergrowth, Arthur also discovered that plant pots make absolutely brilliant toys.
Which was doubly exciting for little Arthur because he found another actual toy in the garden to play with.
And the wall! This was sheer bliss for such an adventurous soul. You can just tell by the look on his face.
Climb every mountain Arthur, and ford every stream. And climb every garden wall!
He's such an outdoors dog, but he did manage to entertain himself indoors too. He fell in love with a large cardboard box.
(Actually it was quite a small cardboard box, but don't tell Arthur that, because he likes to think he's big).
It didn't take long for him to get out into the fresh air again, and pose for an incredibly cute photo.
Those eyebrows are magnificent aren't they?
Finally, as Arthur grows, he'll gently be introduced to the wider world. Here he is on one of his first walks in a local park, just getting the hang of being on a lead.
This is the start of a long journey for Arthur, but he'll be helped every step of the way by Liz and John. They'll make sure he's always happy and healthy, and so even his first walks will be short, easy and no problem for him. This will be the same whether taking him on public transport for the first time, or heading out to a local high street, or visiting the shops. It will all be done at Arthur's pace, so that he grows in confidence as he grows in stature.
Rest assured, he'll get plenty of cuddles and treats whenever he does the 'right' thing, and so Arthur will start to think all his 'training' is really a game, one in which he gets a reward when he wins. So, he's going to win all the time, and get tons of treats!
Finally, after all that action, no Puppy Pen is really complete without a cute picture of a snoozy puppy...
He certainly looks secure, don't you think?
We're thrilled at how well he's settled into his new home, and we hope you are too. We're so looking forward to seeing how his journey continues. Until next time, thank you for sponsoring Arthur!
