Welcome to your Puppy Pen, and thank you for sponsoring Buddy!

Why has Buddy just decided to sit near the cupboard?

His Volunteer Puppy Trainer Carole explains: “He very quickly learned where his food is kept and goes and sits by the cupboard when he decides it’s dinner time.”

Ah, well, he is a Labrador after all! They’re famous for their appetites, and Buddy is a chunky little chap to prove it. It’s only a bit of puppy fat though – he’ll grow into a magnificent, glossy, handsome black Lab and change a deaf person’s life one day.

Back to the present though. Now that he’s full of food, why has Buddy just decided to snooze near the door?

Back to Carole: “His favourite place to sleep is on the mat, by the open doors to the garden. He will lie there just keeping an eye on what’s happening in the garden.”

Ah yes, makes total sense. Clever Buddy! So, that’s food and snoozes. What about family and friends?

Carole smiles. “He settled really quickly and within days became part of the family. He’s already great friends with my 13-year-old granddaughter who adores him. They love having cuddles together. He is also very friendly and happy to say hello to anyone he meets in the park.”

Anyone? Not quite: “He doesn’t like people in sunglasses for some reason!”

So, apart from the sunglasses, everything’s rosy in Buddy’s garden, especially while he’s watching over it half asleep. He has family and friends, and plenty of food. What a lucky pup!

Buddy’s love of food is helping with his training. All it takes is the promise of a treat and he’s totally focused. He can do ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ already. It’s so cute – he just plonks himself down on his little behind and waits for the next cue. According to Carole, he’s a ‘calm, gentle and very loving puppy’, which means training him will be a breeze, and he’ll eventually be a deaf person’s best friend – you could even say, their best buddy!

He's utterly Labradorable, so here are some more photos of Buddy for you to enjoy...

Buddy will change a deaf person's life one day. For now however, he's a cute puppy (who looks fabulous against black, don't you think?). We're really looking forward to seeing how his training journey develops, and we hope you are too! So, until your next Pupdate, thank you for sponsoring Buddy!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
