Out and a-boat with Elvis

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Elvis is still having great fun with Norman and Joyce. In fact, the fun continues - they're all doing so well together that we've decided to make them part of our Volunteer Dog Training scheme. In this, the volunteers continue to look after the dog during its advanced training, with the guidance and support of our training staff. So, having helped Elvis with his basic obedience, Joyce and Norman are now teaching him to recognise and alert people to sounds, which we call 'soundwork'.

It's very exciting news, and we'll tell you all about this in your next printed update. Elvis is the first sponsor pup to be on this scheme.

However, Joyce and Norman also continue the great work of making sure Elvis gets out and about, continuing to broaden his experiences and become confident in different scenarios. It's work, but it's also play!

Here, little dog meets big dog. As you can see, Elvis is fine with this. In fact, they both seem more preoccupied with some off-camera. Perhaps it's some food?

Elvis takes time out to enjoy the sunflowers. We can only assume this picture was taken on a hill. The horizon is sloped, but the people and trees are straight! Doesn't seem to bother Elvis though. He sort of suits daffodils in a way.

The title of this Pupdate wasn't just a clever pun. Here's Elvis plus boat. He likes getting about. A-boat? About? OK, it wasn't really a clever pun at all...

So, there's Elvis. As we say, he's something of a pioneer with the Volunteer Dog Training scheme. We're preparing his next printed update so we'll tell you all about it then! In the meantime, thank you for sponsoring him.

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
