Forrest is doing really well

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Forrest continues to love live with his volunteer socialiser Caroline. Here you can see him looking like a very happy puppy indeed!

What a lovely photograph. Caroline has provided us with all the photos on the Puppy Pen and she seems to have a knack of bringing out his personality.

Together with her husband Richard, they are both taking Forrest out and about to learn more about the world. Here he is getting the hang of being in a clothes shop.

Forrest is doing exactly the right thing: he's just taking it easy, keeping calm, and not bothering anyone. He'll need to be able to do this when he's matched with a deaf person, because they want to lead as full a life as possible. This, of course, involves visiting shops. But we don't want Forrest just to tolerate this: we want him to be happy and content. He certainly looks it below!

Maybe this is because he's near some treats? All Labradors love their food. However, here you see yet another example of how Forrest is doing so well, because he's resisting the treats. We call this 'impulse control', and it's through careful training that our dogs know they don't have to beg for goodies. They get them all the time! Whenever they do the right thing - sit down, zone out, resist treats - they get a tasty morsel and a bit of a fuss. So Forrest knows he doesn't have to pester people. He'll just do the right thing, and get a reward.

Below is another lovely shot of him being a great hearing dogs puppy in training. His focus is all on Caroline. He's not causing any trouble, for himself or anyone else.

And to wrap up, here's another beautiful shot of this lovely black Lab!

Thank you much for sponsoring Forrest!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
