Gordon: Broad smiles, best friends, and boopable noses

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Time for more Gordon!

We recently took a look back at his journey so far, and we noticed three distinct themes emerge - how well he got along with his best friend(s), how he can look so happy so much of the time, and how he has a very boopable nose indeed.

First, friends.

When Gordon moved in with his lovely volunteer family, he immediately made friends with their own pet dog, called Sally.

As you can see, there was quite a size difference to begin with!

Still, they quickly learned how to have tons of fun together. They particularly enjoyed playing the game where Gordon would look over the fence for Sally...

... then Sally would look over the fence for Gordon.

(This could go on for quite some time.)

Eventually the inevitable happened: Gordon grew up. And then some. Suddenly the roles were reversed, but they still continue to love each other.

Gordon has also had a wonderful time with his half-sister Esther.

They're a bit better matched in terms of size, age, colour, breed and so on.

A bit too well-matched perhaps, because we can't tell which is which!

Does it matter? Not really. They're just two Labradorable puppies enjoying life together.

We mentioned smiles too. Dogs aren't officially supposed to smile, but we think they do. It's obvious when a dog is happy, and Gordon looks like a happy dog to us.

As soon as he realised that the world was for enjoying, he started to beam.

That hasn't stopped really. He looks particularly happy in his burgundy 'I'm learning to be a hearing dog' coat (and, let's face it, very handsome too, but don't tell him that because it'll go to his head).

He's every inch a hearing dog in waiting. He'll make a deaf person very proud some day.

He's even happy when settling among some feet. Look how twinkly his eyes are!

He's even happy in new situations. This was taken on his first trip in a lift. It's no problem for Gordon. He loves it.

Finally, did we say boopable noses?

We surely did!

Gordon even had a boopable nose when he was a young puppy.

It just got more boopable...

... and more boopable...

... and we think it's safe to say he has the most boopable nose we've ever seen. It's quite something to behold.

It would definitely go 'boop', we think, and probably quite loudly too.

At the end of the day though, let us not forget - he is magnificent.

And there you have Gordon. He's a wonderful dog, and we all love him to bits - best friends, big smile and boopable nose and all. We hope you do too, because you've come so far along this training journey with us.

Until next time, thank you so much once more for sponsoring Gordon!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
