Gwen loves life with her new family

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Gwen is thoroughly enjoying life with her new Volunteer Puppy Trainers, called Colin and Sandy!

They have looked after hearing dog puppies before, and so Gwen is definitely in good hands. They also know how to take extremely good photos of extremely cute puppies!

All together now: Awwwwwwwwww!

Gwen settled in very well with Colin and Sandy. They made sure she had plenty of toys to choose from.

She seemed to favour the pink rabbit...

... but settled on Panda (quite literally).

It took her a while (and a bit of a chew) before deciding whether the ceramic Cocker Spaniel was friend or foe.

It wasn't long before Gwen was allowed out for her first run outside. Look at those ears! Sandy looks on proudly in the background.

Colin tells us about the photos below: "Gwen had great fun on her second visit to our beach-side caravan, visiting the veranda bar and practising her skills on the beach. The park we visited is always very welcoming of hearing dog pups in all their facilities."

We're glad that Gwen is welcomed wherever she goes. How could you resist?

Gwen going on holidays is all part of helping her become accustomed to the world around her. By introducing her to new experiences, places and faces, they're bringing Gwen up to be a happy, well-adjusted little girl. Meanwhile they're also helping her with training. Here she is demonstrating how she’s coming on with ‘sit’ and ‘down’.

You can see how eager she is, and reacts immediately to the sign for 'sit'. This is because she's given a treat and praise for being a good girl. So, for Gwen, life's mostly a game where, if she wins, she gets a treat! It's not a bad way to live.

Back to the world of experiences, and there are certainly some new experiences to be had. How about tortoises?

Colin's tortoise is the dark one, and it's called Lizzie. The other two belong to his grandchildren.

And finally, Gwen's three month birthday! For an extra special treat she took it very easy with Sandy in the hammock.

Hang on, can you have three-month birthdays? You can if you're this cute!

She's doing really well, and we'll tell you all about her training in your first full update. Until then, thank you for sponsoring Gwen!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
