Harvey at Hengistbury Head

Posted by Brendan Cooper

We may be in lockdown right now, but Harvey and his volunteer training family made sure they got a bit of holiday in beforehand!

Given the uncertainties of travelling abroad, Harvey's Volunteer Puppy Trainer Celia decided to treat her family to a good old-fashioned beach holiday in the UK - at Hengistbury Head, in Dorset, with plenty of sea and sand, and, as luck would have it, sun!

You've met Alice before in previous Pupdates. She's Celia's daughter, and Harvey adores her! Here he is showing how much he loves her by burying her in the sand.

Alice duly returned the favour by helping Harvey negotiate the big blue wibbly-wobbly wet stuff.

And he's out! Free at last! Actually that was really fun. Can I go back in now...?

The problem with so much fun in such salty water, is that it all needs to be washed out afterwards. So, Alice continued to play her important role in Harvey's upbringing by obliging to give him a thorough rinse.

The result? A happy, warm, fluffy dog! With his happy, warm, non-fluffy Alice!

There was still plenty of time to snuffle in the snuffle mat. This is a brilliant way of helping Harvey to take a bit more time over his food rather than wolfing it all down. He loves it!

And after such a long, hard day of burying people, swimming and snuffling, Harvey, well, zonked! There's no other word for it.

As the winter nights draw in, we thought you'd like to see how much Harvey enjoyed himself in lovely bright sunshine. He's doing really well and loving life - and this is thanks to you for sponsoring him. So until the next Pupdate, thank you so very much for sponsoring Harvey!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
