Jade - all play, some work
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Jade is working hard on her training!
Here she is with Margery, a volunteer who is helping Jade along her training journey, along with Louise her trainer, whom we told you about in your last full update.
Here they are demonstrating a fantastic 'wait'. The idea is that Margery makes sure Jade is settled, and says 'Wait'. Jade waits patiently!
As Margery walks away, facing Jade, she continues to say 'Wait'. Jade is very good! She knows that, when the waiting is over, she'll have a bit of a fuss, or a treat, or a play with some pals.
It's really important that our dogs learn this skill. When they accompany a deaf person, they'll need to show good obedience wherever they are - restaurants, cafes, streets, public transport. This is just so that the dog is happy, the recipient is happy, and everyone - and every dog! - around them is happy too.
On this particular day, Jade had a friend whom she wanted to play with!
They look really happy together, don't you think?
So they played...
... and they played around some more...
... and then got a bit carried away!
Fortunately Jade is great at 'recall' too, which means when her name is called or a whistle blown, she'll come right back to you. So, she was a bit breathless after all that running about...
... and decided to lie down for a bit. This is fair enough! She's had a full day of working (a bit) and playing (a lot!)
And finally, a photo we included simply because we love it. This is Jade sprouting daffodils! Obviously taken a while ago, but we only just came across this one, and decided, well, it's such a lovely photo, we should use it.
And that's your Jade! She's such a happy dog as you can see. She's come very far, and this is all because you have helped her. Thank you so much for sponsoring Jade!
