Little Kai's big family
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Kai is being brought up in a big, Hearing Dogs family!
First, Kai's big family of little puppies...
We tried to figure out which one was Kai, but gave up. So, we asked Peter, one half of Kai's volunteer dog training team (the other half being his wife Sharon), who told us: "Kai is nearest the camera aged around 6 weeks." Isn't it funny how just one of them is yellow? That's Cookie, Kai's sister. All the rest are beautiful black Labs (as opposed to beautiful yellow Labs, of course).
Back to Peter for the next photo: "This is the famous Handsome Hudson who is Kai's half brother (from the same Mum, Crumble)."
"The photo was taken at Hudson's B'n'B house and features the well-known Sharkey (the cuddly toy). We had a lovely meal there with Abi and Thomas and 'the boys' ran around with Sharkey until they crashed out."
They have so much fun together. Here's Kai giving Hudson a friendly little peck.
Abi and Thomas are also volunteer dog trainers who have helped bring up two of our sponsor success stories, Zara and Honey.
Our volunteers are incredible. They give up so much of their time to help us in so many ways. They also help each other, and many life-long friendships have been forged through volunteering.
Back to Peter to help us identify dogs!
"This photo is of baby Kai with two other Labs. Hedley (Hudson's brother) is on the left with mum Crumble in the middle. This was taken at human mum Catherine's house."
Sharon tells us what's going on below: "Kai plays with ALL his toys from his box but loves Little Ted, Dashy the Dachshund and a very worn-out ragger."
Dashy looks in good shape. Given this photo was taken a while ago, we're wondering whether Dashy is still intact! What do you think? Tell us below!
Finally, something we've noticed about Kai and photos. Take a look below...
... and again...
What do you see? That's right - Kai almost always looks directly at the camera! He's obviously got potential as a model on the catwalk (or dogwalk?)
And finally, a lovely video Peter shared of one of Sharon and Peter's grandchildren simply having fun with Kai in the kitchen. No, we don't know why Kai's wearing a hoop around his head either, but it sort of suits him. And there's no denying, everyone is enjoying themselves, human and canine alike...
See what we mean about a big family? It's not just a family of puppies, or dogs, but also humans!
Kai is having the very best life. He's looked after by lovely volunteers, has fun with friends, is happy and healthy, and being trained to the very highest standards. One day he will help a deaf person move forward with their lives, leaving loneliness behind and simply reconnecting with the world around them. This will be through your support. So for now, thank you so much for sponsoring Kai.
