Leo's funny little habits are emerging

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Leo continues to have loads of fun learning to be a hearing dog!

He's settled into a nice routine with his volunteer dog trainer Joy and her family. He's also starting to develop those funny little habits that make each of our puppies unique.

Joy tells us: "Leo loves to steal your slipper and runs off down the garden, waiting for a game of chase."

Here he is having stolen a slipper (or maybe a shoe, it's hard to tell nowadays...)

Do you think he looks a bit bashful here? Like he knows he shouldn't have stolen the shoe (or slipper), but it doesn't matter anyway because he's so cute? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Joy continues: "Leo also loves to play with a plastic milk carton, especially when it rattles and skids on the floor." She even supplied a video of what we're now going to call 'The Plastic Carton Game'.

We're not sure what the rules of the game are, or how to tell whether Leo's won or lost. The main thing is, Leo loves it.

You might be wondering why chasing plastic milk cartons and stealing slippers are part of growing up to become a hearing dog. Well, living in a happy, domestic environment is very important for a young puppy. They need to grow up as well-trained, well-behaved dogs, and our volunteers make sure they have funtime as well as take them to puppy classes. We tell you more about the training in your full training updates: the Puppy Pen is where we show you more of the fun!

Back to Joy for more description of Leo's life: "Leo has found a favourite spot to curl up on the mat by the front door. That way he can greet anyone coming or going." It also looks like he enjoys crunching a carrot...

"When he gives you his soppy-eye look it's very hard not to give him a big cuddle," Joy says. If this is his soppy-eye look then we agree!

Even if it isn't, we still agree! It's hard not to give him a cuddle.

Finally, another lovely video from Joy, showing a bit of downtime for Leo, enjoying a bit of dancing on the telly.

All puppies are allowed a bit of downtime. He's very busy having fun so it makes sense.

Leo is doing so well. He's moved further along that journey toward helping a deaf person to leave loneliness behind. From all of us, thank you so much for sponsoring Leo!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
