Let's go shopping with Lily

Posted by Elizabeth Murphy

Hello and welcome back to Lily’s Puppy Pen!

Lily is doing brilliantly in her training with Eileen, her new volunteer puppy trainer - they make a fantastic team! They have been focusing on visiting busy public places.

To practise travelling on public transport, Lily and Eileen caught the train to the shops…

As you can see, Lily calmly settles on the floor and patiently waits for their stop to get off. Lily’s future deaf partner might use public transport regularly, so it is important that Lily feels happy and comfortable with the experience.

The first stop of the day is the library. Here is Lily looking very smart in front of some books…

As clever as Lily is, we don’t think she has learnt to read yet!

Lily demonstrates how relaxed and comfortable she feels in the quiet environment of a library.

We’ve moved into a new shop now and Lily is helping Eileen decide on some new clothes…

Lily is the perfect customer!

Off to the supermarket now and Lily is helping Eileen with some food shopping. Lily did a brilliant job of keeping her focus, despite the many interesting and tasty looking items on the shelves…

“…must… not… get… distracted… by… cheese…”

Superstar Lily demonstrates a perfect settle while she patiently waits for the shopping to be packed away.

Into the card shop now and Lily doesn’t look overly enthusiastic about the cards…

... but we are very proud of her brilliant settle and how patiently she is waiting.

It’s time for the most exciting stop of the day… the pet shop!

Lily enjoyed an exciting walk around the shop and once again kept her focus and attention on Eileen. As she did so well, Lily was allowed to choose a new toy to take home for being such a clever pup.

What a brilliant and successful shopping trip. Visiting the shops with her future deaf partner might be a regular activity for Lily, so it is fantastic that she is so comfortable with the experience. There are lots of potential distractions when going shopping, and Lily did so well at maintaining her focus.

Lily’s training would not be possible without your incredibly kind support.

So, until next time, from everyone at Hearing Dogs, thank you so much for sponsoring Lily.
