Lily is a hearing dog!

Lovable Lily is a hearing dog!

Well done, our clever girl! Lily is now living with her deaf partner, Corey. She’s his constant companion, supporting him to connect with others every day and to live without fear.

Corey was born with hearing loss; he’s profoundly deaf in one ear and his hearing in his other ear is declining. He has a close group of both hearing and deaf friends and plays in a deaf sports team. However, before Lily, Corey shared that he still lived with a general sense of loneliness.

“It can be very hard communicating with people and in new environments,” said Corey. “Often, my deafness is not very noticeable to others. I can struggle to socialise in groups and I think people struggle to know how to include me. I can get incredibly tired lipreading* and trying to keep up with conversations.

  • *Lipreading – During a conversation, a person with hearing loss watches the speaker’s mouth and face to try to understand what they are saying, noticing speech patterns, movements, gestures and expressions.

“Also, when I am home on my own or working in different locations, I feel anxious about missing sounds such as the fire alarm.”

We are so proud of Lily, from a quiet, sweet-natured puppy to a confident, constant companion

Lily the life-changer

Alongside these challenges, Corey wanted to live and work more independently. Having seen the difference a hearing dog had made to his friend’s life, he decided to apply.

Corey and Lily make a great team!

“Lily is an amazing addition to my life. She is a happy, cheeky and loving companion who makes me feel less alone. I have been far more confident out and about. She allows me to live independently and feel less isolated.

Wherever she goes, everybody loves Lily!

“I know Lily will be there to alert me to important sounds at home and in the office. In my job, I can work with a wide variety of people and they don’t always know I am deaf. She is a great companion at work and makes my colleagues aware of my hearing loss. Lily soon has everyone wrapped around her paw and other people love having her around.”

Lily has a special spot in the office where she loves to settle down

“Lily has brought me a lot of joy. She loves exploring the outdoors and we are fortunate enough to live on the doorstep to the Peak District. Within weeks of her coming to live with me, we had snow — Lily had the best day rolling around!"

From little pup to life-changing partner

From Corey: “Thank you for supporting Lily on her journey to becoming a hearing dog — for helping her to help me. I feel we’re a great match and she has had such a positive impact on my life.”

With your sponsorship, Lily has grown up from puppy-in-training to amazing hearing dog. Now, she’s supporting Corey to live a life full of joy and connection.

It would be amazing if you’d consider sponsoring another puppy, but whatever you decide, thank you so much for being Lily’s sponsor.
