Luna and Josie love each other
Posted by Brendan Cooper
What's Luna been up to lately?
How about... impulse control?
That's what we call it when a puppy manages to resist those urges - to run after things, eat things, jump up at things and so on. We want all our puppies to be very well behaved, and the best way to do that is from day one, and by gently encouraging them to do the 'right' thing.
So, you can see how Luna is happy waiting for the cue to eat from Volunteer Puppy Trainer Debbie, because she knows she'll get plenty of praise. If she's impatient, she doesn't get praise - she's just ignored. We call it 'reward-based training' and it's a fantastic, positive experience for everyone, human and dog alike!
Here's Luna again, showing exceptional focus:
See how well she focuses on the person she's with? This is great: it shows she'll be thinking about her eventual deaf partner all the while, looking after them and caring for them.
We also think she looks very cute in her 'I'm learning to be a hearing dog' burgundy coat! How long do you think it'll still fit her, though...?
Talking of larger Labs, you'll probaby have judged by the title of this Pupdate that this features Josie, the other dog Debbie is helping to train. The thing is, Josie and Luna absolutely adore each other's company!
They like having a bit of a splash together from time to time. Josie leads the way, while Luna wonders: "Hmmm, that looks a bit like... fun?"
She waits for a bit. "No, really, that does look like fun to me."
And she's off! "Come on in," shouts Josie. "The water's lovely!" (it does look lovely, doesn't it?)
Luna loves it!
And after a bit of a splosh, and a splash, and a thrash...
... out she comes, all lovely and clean!
Just in time to ruin it all by getting very, very, very muddy together.
They don't care though. They're the best of friends, and for them, life is just a big, happy game!
You might notice that Luna is growing up a bit. It happens with Labradors, you know. They shoot up! Especially in their first few months. So, whereas Josie used to be happy sharing things, provided she kept them in the end...
Now Luna sometimes has the last word!
Even so, butter wouldn't melt... she's so cute still!
Finally, no Pupdate would be complete without a photo of snoozy pooches, especially these two, so happy to be with each other, and so comfortable in each other's company.
We hope you enjoyed this Luna Pupdate! We think Luna and Josie did. Until next time - thank you for sponsoring Luna!
