Micky now lives with Gail and Dick
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Micky has moved on!
He's finished his year of socialising, and is now living with volunteers Gail and Dick while he does soundwork training. This is where our pups show how clever they are, by learning to alert people to sounds. It's a big step for a little Poodle! But he still looks fairly happy about it, don't you think?
Gail and Dick already love our cheeky Micky. They've looked after three pups before, but Micky is their first sponsor pup.
"Puppies love where we live", says Gail. "We live in a village with loads of fields and common land. Micky loves to charge around the common and plays well with other dogs. Our local pub is very dog-friendly and it is not unusual for there to be seven or eight dogs at any one time. Micky loves this as he is so friendly with others and the locals make a fuss of him!"
Here you can see Micky with not quite seven or eight dogs, but enough for him to enjoy himself:
Dick continues: "Micky loves people and wants to play almost constantly so he gets on with everyone. His best friend seems to be a Labradoodle that we often meet whilst out on the common. The two of them go nuts together."
And here's a funny story: "We think that he could lose himself in his own bed. After a month or so of walking almost every day down the same footpath leading to our house Micky still doesn’t recognise it and has to be led in order for him to turn into it. We have to be careful when we throw a ball into the river for him to retrieve - if he doesn't see where it lands he'll never find it."
Here he is having some happy river-related time...
... but maybe getting lost in the process! 'Wrong-way Micky' strikes again!
"He adores going in the river (a shallow brook really just outside Little Missenden) and he instantly started swimming when the water was deeper than he could strand in. He would probably just keep running in and out all day if we didn’t call him out."
Here's a fantastic video of Micky really having a wonderful time in the river:
Another funny story: "He plays the same game constantly. We throw a ball. He fetches it and takes it to the settee where a have large throw which reaches to the floor. He spends ages shuffling and lifting the throw to get the ball under it and then spends even longer fighting the throw to retrieve the ball before bringing it back to one of us."
Cue another video!
How would Gail and Dick sum him up? "A loving, well behaved bundle of fun." We agree! Although even Micky's allowed some downtime...
So, you can see, Micky just loves life really. He's doing really well with his training (his trainer has fallen in love with him too), and we'll tell you all about this in your next full update. Until then, thank you for sponsoring him!
