Molly loves her toys

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Molly's journey continues. Just under a month ago, she started her advanced training. This builds on the fantastic skills she developed with her volunteer puppy socialiser, specialising in recognising important sounds that deaf people need to know about. It's the final stage for Molly: the next few months will see her develop into an immensely capable assistance dog.

Molly's live is divided into two parts now. During weekdays she 'works' at our training centre, which we will tell you all about in your next printed update. During evenings and weekends however, she lives with another volunteer, Carolynne. This is what we call 'Bed and Breakfast'. It really helps our pups to continue living in a nice, stable, domestic setting. They simply learn better that way. Our B&B volunteers enjoy it too!

Carolynne has made sure Molly isn't short of entertainment. "'Mouse' is Molly's special toy. When visitors come to the door Molly will greet them with a wagging tail and Mouse in her mouth", she says. Below you can see Molly with 'Mouse'.

What do you think Molly might be whispering to Mouse here? Let us know in the comments below!

Carolynne, who took these photos for us, tells us more about Molly. "This photo below shows Molly with her precious collection of balls. She has a real passion for balls - particularly for tennis balls and will hide them under bushes in the garden or out on walks to keep them safe."

That certainly is quite an assortment!

Finally, another photo of Molly with two tennis balls behind her. It seems the only thing she craves more than tennis balls is affection!

That's all for now. We'll show more photos of Molly having a great time with Carolynne in your next Puppy Pen update. In the meantime, as ever, thank you so much for sponsoring her. She's on the final stage of an amazing journey, and you made this possible.

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
