Ned is now in B&B land
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Ned's journey continues! He's moved on from living with his volunteer pup socialisers, and is now doing his advanced training. He does this during weekdays at our training centre, but in the evenings and weekends he lives with local volunteers who look after him. We call this Bed & Breakfast, and it's a fantastic way to make sure our dogs continue to live domestic life while honing their skills.
Ned's B&B volunteer is called Sarah, and she took these photos. First up, here's Ned popping up in a cornfield. Sarah's comment is: "What can I say, just so handsome!" We agree!
Here he is again, looking happy in a cornfield.
Sarah already had a dual dog called Ashleigh, also a black Labrador. Dual dogs are trained to help people who are deaf but might have another disability, such as being blind or disabled. Here you can see them on Ned's first night with Sarah, who says: "They snuggled together in bed!"
It didn't take Ned long to settle in. Here you can see him practising being in the pub! This is actually an important skill. Ned needs to be able to settle in public places, calmly and happily, so that he can be with a deaf person wherever they want to go. Here Ned shows that he's great at doing this. It's a fantastic foundation upon which to build his advanced training.
Part of what makes Ned so great is the way he's trained. We always make sure our pups receive plenty of treats and praise when they make the right choice. So, here you can see Ned enjoying a well-deserved bone...
... and here he is snoozing after a busy day!
It's hard to believe he was such a small pup only a year ago. He's doing really well, and loving life - thanks to you, his sponsor.
