Friends, family, impulse control and haircuts – it's all good for Nutmeg (apart from the haircuts, possibly)

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Our pups have a lovely life with their volunteer puppy socialisers. Nutmeg is no exception! He's having a great time with Wendy, who is making sure he grows up to be a happy pup. And he's certainly growing. He grew to about the same size as a normal adult Cockapoo a couple of months ago. It's not a problem - he's just a big boy!

He's developing in so many ways. Here he is below showing how well he can 'wait' - that is, resist his initial impulse to grab a treat, simply because he knows that he'll be able to have it anyway, plus lots of praise and fussing, if he just waits until he's allowed to eat it.

He might be a big boy now but he's still really a puppy at heart. Here's a classic shot of a puppy who's made friends with... a toilet roll. Lots of puppies adopt a favourite toy, but we must admit a toilet roll is fairly unusual. He seems to be taking very good care of it though, don't you think?

Another clue that makes us realise he's still a puppy is that he adores being around his mum! We showed you a fab photo last time of Nutmeg with his family and friends, and here's another one of him with his mum. It's hard to believe that they're related isn't it? Don't forget, Nutmeg is a Cockapoo, so his 'Cocker Spaniel' side comes from his mum, and his 'Poodleness' from his dad.

Nutmeg also still loves being around his brother, called Chilli. This is a really nice photo showing them snuggling up together. The cushion says 'Happy Dog' and we agree!

And finally, 'The Haircut Shot'. The huge majority of our photos show our sponsor pups having a whale of a time, but sometimes, well, we have to share the bad times too. On the whole, when all's aid and done, it really doesn't look like Nutmeg was very happy about his first haircut, does it...?

So, friends, family, impulse control and haircuts - it's all good for Nutmeg (apart from the haircuts, possibly). He's doing really well and has already come a long way along the journey towards becoming an amazing hearing dog and changing a deaf person's life. From all of us at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, thank you so much for sponsoring him!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
