Riley is learning

Posted by Elizabeth Murphy

Hello and welcome back to Riley’s Puppy Pen!

You’ll remember from the last episode that Riley was practising his adorable puppy eyes.

Well, he’s still going…

Lovely Riley is still being looked after by Victoria, his amazing volunteer puppy trainer, who gives him the best cuddles…

Riley has made a super start in his training and he is enjoying learning lots of new skills. At one recent outdoor puppy class, Riley was practising a ‘down’ and did very well to stay focused and not get distracted…

It is important that Riley understands basic cues like ‘sit’ and ‘down’, as they will be used throughout his entire hearing dog training. Practising these skills regularly will help Riley to become a confident and well-behaved puppy.

Once Riley has mastered 'sit' and 'down' in familiar surroundings like at home and at puppy class, he will then start to practise them in new and busier environments. One day, Riley will be using these cues with his future deaf partner – how exciting!

It’s time for a group puppy class walk now…

Group walks are lots of fun! They also give Riley the opportunity to practise interacting nicely with other pups and people.

Is it a bit windy Riley?

In other news, Riley recently had his first hair cut!

As much as we love how fluffy Riley is, we still want to be able to see those gorgeous puppy eyes…

"Where have my eyes gone?"

Making sure that Riley is happy and comfortable being groomed is an important part of his training.

Here is Riley being gently introduced to the clippers that will give him his lovely new trim…

Riley will receive regular health and grooming checks throughout his training to make sure he is happy and healthy. Through gradual reward-based training, Riley is learning that getting groomed is an enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Riley certainly looks very relaxed after his grooming session…

…and still as fluffy and handsome as ever!

It’s now time for this sleepy pup to get some rest…

Could Riley be any cuter?!

We hope you’ve enjoyed catching up with Riley and finding out how brilliantly he is doing in his training.

Riley’s training would not be possible without your very kind support.

So, until next time, from everyone at Hearing Dogs, thank you for sponsoring Riley.
