Robyn continues to learn and love life

Robyn continues to learn, while loving life with Volunteer Puppy Trainers Guy and Heather!

Heather tells us what's going on below: "The stairs in our house have long since been mastered. The challenge now is encouraging her to come back down or to try not to laugh too hard when she slides down them on her belly with her legs splayed out behind her!"

She does manage it eventually, and it looks like there's a little tail-wag to go with it.

Our dogs need to become happy in all situations that their eventual deaf partners might find themselves. Stairs are part of this: they can actually be quite intimidating for some puppies, so the more practice Robyn gets, indoors and outdoors, the better. Later she'll go on to other everyday challenges such as lifts and getting onto public transport. Heather and Guy will be with her every step of the way to gently encourage her natural curiosity.

Another important part of training is 'recall'. This is what a well-behaved dog does when it is called, either by voice or using a whistle. Deaf people need to know that their dog will come back no matter what. The last thing they want is a disappearing dog. As you can see however, coming back - or even hurtling back like a rocket, ears everywhere - is no problem whatsoever for clever Robyn.

Back to Heather: "Robyn loves our own yellow Labrador Charlie, and likes to curl up with him in his bed, or chase him when he is playing with his ball in the garden. Sometimes he lets her get the ball first. It’s great to watch their friendship develop.”

It looks like sometimes Robyn gets the bed all to herself!

And if she can't get in the bed, then Guy's nice warm arm will do as a puppy cradle...!

It looks like she lives life to the full, then goes into snooze mode. Guy agrees: "Every day is an exhausting day! Oh and by the way, Robyn is THE loudest snorer, she beats every single one of us, hands down!"

Imagine her snoring in the photo above and you get the idea.

And there you have Robyn, learning about the world around her in a secure, loving environment. It really couldn't be a better life for a happy little puppy. Thank you so much for sponsoring her!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
