Robyn loves her new home

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Robyn's moved on!

To help her on the next stage of her journey, she's now living with a new volunteer called Heike. She will take Robyn even further along her training journey, helping her to grow and develop the amazing skills that will one day help a deaf person to leave loneliness behind.

Robyn was very excited at her new home. To show us all just how excited, she decided to run around. A lot.

Heike very quickly got to know Robyn. And she's already discovered one of Robyn's favourite things - the hosepipe!

As well as watering Robyn to help her grow, they also enjoy gloriously muddy walks together. Actually, this lovely clip also shows how well Robyn is doing: notice how she's always checking that Heike is close by? This is because she's been taught that looking after the person she's with is a 'good' thing. She gets treats for doing it, so it must be good!

If it's not a muddy path, Robyn loves a fresh field and a ball - the simple things in life.

That video also shows the other side of Robyn: as well as being a good girl, looking after the person she's with, she also bonds very strongly with people. This is the emotional side of how hearing dogs help deaf people. As well as caring for them practically, they also become incredibly close friends to deaf people who might find socialising difficult. It's a very powerful combination, and one that Robyn has in bucketfuls.

During lockdowns and social distancing, it's important to keep dogs mentally and physically stimulated. So, Heike made sure Robyn spent plenty of time with her 'treat ball'. There are treats inside that ball, and Robyn is going to make sure she gets them all out... eventually!

What else has Robyn been up to?

Well, she enjoyed the snow (yes, we had snow in April thanks to the eccentric British weather!)

She also quickly made a new friend called 'Frog'.

We'll leave you with that beautiful image. Look at her face! Look at her eyes! How coul you resist?

The truth is, of course, you can't. Nobody can - and that's another reason why she's going to make a fabulous hearing dog, loved by all.

She's doing so well, and we're full of confidence that she'll fly through the next stage of her training with Heike's help. And yours too, in supporting her! So again, until next time, thank you so very much for sponsoring Robyn!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
