Robyn's first puppy class

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Robyn has had her first puppy class! She's such a confident little girl that it all went really well. Not only that, but another sponsor puppy called Luca was also in attendance. Luca is a couple of months older than Robyn, but they were very excited to meet each other. Fortunately Nicola the puppy training instructor made sure the class went smoothly.

Time for Robyn to meet fellow sponsor puppy Luca! They're so excited to see each other, but they can't play just yet because it's puppy class time.

Robyn and Luca learn that the puppy mats are nice, safe places from which they can explore the world.

Robyn and Luca get acquainted - tails wagging, nicely saying 'hello' to each other in that lovely doggy way!

Robyn contents herself with a snuffle around (she loves to sniff!) while puppy training instructor Nicola just explains how we like to keep our puppies from getting too excited. Excited puppies are incredibly cute, but calm puppies definitely learn better.

Puppy training instructor Nicola explains what this is about in the background - that the idea is for Robyn to learn not to be scared of new objects, textures, smells and so on. As she notices, Robyn isn't particularly bothered by anything! She's so confident. Guy, her volunteer puppy trainer, agrees! Best just to let Robyn get on with things...

Robyn is such a friendly soul! She wants to make friends with everyone, even people who just happen to be passing by. This is a great sign - she'll be fine with people saying hello as she grows up, and this will help her deaf partner reconnect with the world around them.

What's the way to a Labrador's heart? Its stomach, obviously! Treats are so important because when a puppy does the 'right' thing it gets a treat. Here, Robyn is starting to learn about walking nicely on her lead, and you can see how much she enjoys getting treats as rewards!

Robyn is already so confident, exploring, snuffling around, checking out all the nooks and crannies. She'll learn that it's ok to be around new places and people, and just be happy wherever she goes.

For a first lesson, this went really well! Robyn has already shown how confident she is, inquisitive, alert, bright, and very, very cute obviously. We hope you enjoyed this insight into how her training's coming along. Until next time, thank you for sponsoring Robyn!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
