Sandie's flying high

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Let's jump straight in shall we...?

Reasons we love that video: it's funny, with Sandie bouncing around and her ears everywhere; and it's brilliant, because her recall is so fantastic.

Recall - that is, calling her name and she comes running - is extremely important. When she's with a deaf person, they'll need to have confidence that she won't just leave them on their own. A call, by name or whistle, should trigger an immediate return. Which Sandie does!

Here's another example.

Again, see how quickly she responds? And so happily too? Woods are so full of interesting smells for little puppies, but Sandie is never too far away, always checking that her humans are nearby, always ready to come back when asked. She's such a good girl.

She's also clever!

That's right, it just took one go, and a bit of moral support, and she got the hang of stepping stones. Whereas this isn't strictly part of her training as such - as in, we don't train our dogs to use stepping stones specifically - it is all part of her learning about the world in a nice, gentle way. That's how you build a happy, healthy, confident dog, who can go for walks wherever and be a pleasure.

From outdoors to indoors now: a visit to the groomers.

Sandie was happy to have her claws cleaned...

... and her legs trimmed...

... and she went all dreamy when her ears were being done.

There! All done. Did you enjoy that Sandie?

Hmmm. OK. Let's go back outdoors! Look, you can even jump higher without all that fur weighing you down!

Even visiting the groomer, or the vets, is all part of training for Sandie. As with being a well-behaved girl outdoors, she'll need to be patient and gentle during check-ups and the like. She's been so well brought up, it's no problem whatsoever. It's all good for Sandie!

And she's even patient during the towel rubs which is, we suspect, because she really really really really really really really really really likes it, and gets a treat for being so patient, yet again.

Let's wrap this one up with a lovely portrait of Sandie, looking every inch the gorgeous girl who will one day change a deaf person's life.

What a superstar she is.

We hope you enjoyed this latest update on her life. As you can see, she's happy and healthy, and this is because of your kindness. So, once more, until next time, thank you for sponsoring Sandie!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
