Scout has had plenty of adventures (mostly beginning with 'B')
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Scout has been making the most of life!
This is in no small part down to the efforts of her volunteer family taking her on holiday and having fun with her, while also helping her with training.
Let's see what she's been up to...!
Beaches
Scout's volunteer puppy trainer Michelle took Scout to Hengistbury Head, a very popular place for holiday makers and their puppies!
Here Scout seems to be contemplating her future as a hearing dog...
... but she also gets fully immersed in her subject.
This is the result: a slightly sandy Scout. And who's that in the background? It's Alfie, Michelle's own 11-year-old Springer Spaniel!
He loves having Scout around and they have a wonderful time together. This is important: Scout needs to learn how to play nicely with other dogs and people. It seems Michelle's family, complete with Alfie, is the perfect place for this.
Michelle also went on holiday to Norfolk, and naturally Scout had a wonderful time there too!
"It was beautiful weather but quite windy - perfect for flying a kite on the gorgeous Norfolk sandy beaches," Michelle tells us. "Scout decided that some days are just meant to be spent chasing, jumping and barking at a kite on the sand."
Now, we really did try and edit these following videos down but for some reason we just could not get enough of Scout chasing, jumping and barking at a kite on the sand! Every video has something funny in it, whether it's Scout's antics, Izzy rushing to stop Scout eating the kite, Michelle's husband Anthony having to go back yet again to re-launch the kite, or Alfie and a 'mystery dog' making an appearance.
So, we included them all...
Busy places
Now for some training. We want to make sure all our puppies don't just tolerate busy places - we want them to be happy just walking down the street with their human, lead not too tight or loose, no distractions.
Here's Debbie's daughter Izzy showing us how it's done. Scout is perfectly happy on a busy high street because she knows that, if she's no bother, she'll get a treat.
And here comes the treat! Good Scout!
Buses
Continuing the 'B' theme, here's more training, this time on buses, again very well demonstrated by Izzy!
Here comes the bus, and Scout seems to think the pavement smells interesting.
It's even more interesting than Alfie!
Oops, looks like Alfie snuck in there while Scout was distracted!
Now we're on the bus and Scout does a brilliant 'settle'.
See how she just relaxes and enjoys the ride? Ever wondered how we encourage that to happen? Watch the video below:
That's right - a treat every now and then goes a long way!
It's the perfect way for a well-behaved little puppy to travel. One day she'll help a deaf person wherever they want to go, as an assistance dog, proudly by their side.
Bushes
This counts as a bush, if for no other reason than it begins with 'B'.
Buckets
We were thinking of putting this in the beaches section, then realised it's another 'B'! More fun at the beach as Scout 'helps' catch some crabs.
Boats
Don't forget, there was a boat further up the page too, but this enabled us to have another 'B' heading.
If Scout's eventual deaf partner is a sailor, she's going to have no problems at all.
Life
We tried very hard but could not come up with a final 'B' to cover everything else. Michelle sent us so many fab photos and videos, we just had to include these in 'Life'.
Here's Scout with her best toy friend - one of the soft toy puppies with the smart Hearing Dogs burgundy coat.
Scout has also made some non-soft toys, namely Jimmy the tortoise. Michelle tells us: "Scout is absolutely fascinated by Jimmy and Jimmy is happy to reciprocate by chasing her around the lawn (yes, he is pretty fast on a sunny day!)"
Scout at the Uffington White Horse, looking majestic.
And finally, Scout having a snooze or two!
A lot of our Pupdates end with snoozing pooches, and this is because they have such a full, fun life, they need time to recharge.
As you can see, Scout is having fantastic time still. This is thanks to you for sponsoring her! So, again, thank you for your support.
