Scout is a work of art

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Let's kick this one off with an unusual sight for April.

That's right - snow! The Chilterns can tend towards having strange weather at the best of times, and this year we had snow. Given that we're also experiencing hail in May, who knows what will happen next?

If you're not sure whether Scout enjoyed it, then the tail probably gives it away...

That's a happy dog tail! And Scout is highly visible, for once, against a very white background.

Here she is being a bit less hi-viz, emerging from a fog bank (yes, that's more Chilterns weather for you...)

Look at those ears! If it isn't the tail that's up, it's the ears. They all tell us that Scout is still having a whale of a time as a trainee hearing dog.

She's also really good at staying still. This is definitely a skill. For an energetic little dog, it's very tempting just to rush everywhere, obeying their first impulses. We can't have that, because our hearing dogs need to understand that, whereas there's a time and a place for that sort of thing, they also need to just take it easy and sit still sometimes. More than that, we want them to be happy doing so. This is how Scout's learned to be a good girl, so she'll be able to accompany her eventual deaf partner wherever they go.

And here's a perfect example.

Art in the Park! Who'd have thought it? Mind you, Scout's something of a work of art herself.

She loves being admired!

"Is this my best side?"

"Actually, I've changed my mind. This is my best side."

"Hmmm. Perhaps I look more dramatic like this?"

What's going through Scout's mind, do you think? We imagine she's contemplating the day when she will eventually help a deaf person to leave loneliness behind. She has that dreamy, far-away look.

She also has that 'Feed me now' look!

Alright Scout, we'll feed you...

Scout is a wonderful little dog and we all adore her. Whether it's walking nicely on her lead, being a well-behaved little girl outdoors, settling in public places, it's all coming together.

This is thanks to you, her sponsor. Without your kindness, none of this would have happened. So once again, until next time, thank you so much for sponsoring Scout.

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
