Even more Scout adventures!
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Welcome to the continuing adventures of Scout!
We tried to think of a different theme this time around, but really, life seems to be one big adventure for this little puppy! This is because her Volunteer Puppy Trainer family have been so great at introducing her to the world. It's all part of helping her grow in confidence, so that when she's partnered with a deaf person, she'll be happy no matter where she goes or what she does.
First up, how about a photo of Scout bodyboarding?
OK, not actually bodyboarding, but looking like she wouldn't mind a go. Perhaps you need two bodyboards when you have four legs?
To make up for a photo not actually showing her bodyboarding, how about a photo of her actually kayaking?
At the back is Michelle, and at the front is Izzy, her daughter, who is happy to help with raising this adorable puppy. The canine-shaped occupant in the middle is Scout, in case you weren't sure!
Michelle tells us all about those two photos: "The bodyboarding was on Puttsborough Beach – the doggy-friendly end of Woolacombe Beach in North Devon. Scout had great fun! She did lots of wave-jumping and swimming in the sea, and was very interested in watching the children bodyboarding. She had a go on the sand but didn’t brave the waves. The kayak shot was in St Anthony in Cornwall on holiday. She is a very confident, adventurous dog who is happy to go anywhere and do anything with her humans!"
We agree. If her eventual deaf partner likes kayaking then that won't be a problem, it would seem!
What do you get on happy holidays? Happy faces, both humans and dogs alike!
To the left you have Izzy and Alfie, the family's own Cocker Spaniel, and on the right is Izzy's brother Max with Scout. What a happy photo!
More happiness below...
We love this photo. It's just such a great example of a happy, contented dog.
Back to Michelle: "She is a really happy dog! She just loves to be out and about, having adventures wherever that may be. She just seems to make the most of every minute and enjoys being busy!"
Here's another adventure in the making...
This was on the Lynton and Lynmouth Funicular Cliff Railway in North Devon. Michelle tells us: "She had already been down to the bottom and we were just boarding to go back up."
Doesn't seem a problem! Consider that another successful experience!
Now, how about this for heelwork?
"We were cycling slowly and she loved running along," says Michelle. "She soon got used to the bike wheels. We had a small dog trailer that we hired in case she didn’t take to the bikes. She was happy to sit in that for a ‘rest’ but also happy to run along with the bikes."
Did she say small dog trailer?
She surely did!
It's all good fun but this is also a great example of how 'world experience' really does affect their training. After having so many positive experiences running alongside the bikes, when Scout was introduced to a wheelchair in training, she took to it instantly. She was just happy walking alongside it, or sitting next to it while Michelle chatted. She's so clever.
"Who's so clever?" Scout seems to ask below...
All together now: "You are Scout! You're so clever!"
And finally, yet another photo of a pooped pooch. We love that they have such full lives, having fun and training - indeed, having fun while training - and yet they have plenty of downtime too.
Michelle sums Scout up beautifully: "She really is quite extraordinary. She is a very happy, calm, confident little soul who loves life, people, animals, adventures, and is more than happy to get stuck in with new experiences."
She concludes: "She is very clever and learns quickly. There have been moments that I have thought would take her time to adjust – like running with the bikes – but nothing seems to phase her and she just carries on as if she has done it all her life. She truly is amazing."
Yes, she is! And she's doing so well because you have helped her. So, once again, from all of us, thank you so much for sponsoring Scout!
