Star’s a dedicated, driven and determined pup, in a small, sweet body. Definitely a superstar in the making!

When she arrived at the home of her Volunteer Puppy Trainers Grace and her mum Jenny, she was dead set on settling in. Grace explains: “She very quickly became good friends with our other hearing dog in training, Coco, who showed her the ropes. In no time she was exploring the garden without us by her side.”

Since then, she’s shown how resolute she can be – especially around Coco. Over to Jenny: “When Star and Coco play, Star will not let go of a toy no matter how hard Coco pulls. Once she puts her mind to it, she will keep going until Coco gives up. She may be small but she doesn't let that stop her!

“But she doesn’t give Coco that hard a time. Coco is definitely her best friend. They get so excited to see each other after they have been apart. In fact, Star’s favourite place to sleep is right next to Coco. They are very sweet together and like being near each other.”

So, what else is dedicated, driven and determined about our sweet, special, small Star?

“She is fantastic at finding things,” says Grace. “She loves the challenge of searching for treats in the grass and ensures she gets every last one. The only thing Star doesn’t really like about the garden is how noisy it can get with the birds!”

We’re sure Star will find a way around that. She’s up for the challenge. She’s a star by name, star by nature!

Grace tells us that Star has already mastered her basic cues such as ‘Sit’ and ‘Down’. “She takes a lot of interest in Coco's training,” she tells us. “She wants to take part in the 'big girl things' such as being brushed and health checks.” It looks like Star won’t stop – she’s relentless in her pursuit of knowledge. One day, this will make her a truly amazing hearing dog.

For now however, she's a lovely cute Cockapoo, and looks fabulous against black...

We're really looking forward to following her training journey, and we hope you are too.

Once again, thank you for sponsoring Star!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
