Talented Teddy
Posted by Elizabeth Murphy
Welcome back to The Puppy Pen! It’s time to catch up with the lovely Teddy.
Teddy is loving life. He is flying through his training and he’s having so much fun learning new skills from his volunteer puppy trainers, Peter and Hazel.
Peter took Teddy to a local Scouts Group, where Teddy showed everyone what he does best…
Teddy's time to shine!
All the children were amazed by how clever Teddy was. We think Teddy enjoyed all the extra love and attention too!
It is wonderful when our volunteers take hearing dogs in training to places like Scout Groups and schools as it helps to raise awareness from an early age. The more people who are aware of the challenges that deaf people face, the less isolating it will become for people with hearing loss.
Peter and Hazel have also been gradually introducing Teddy to busier places. Here he is helping Hazel with some errands at a pharmacy...
It is important that Teddy feels happy and relaxed visiting busy environments, so that he will be comfortable accompanying his future deaf partner wherever they may want to go. Teddy receives lots of positive rewards, such as treats, every time he visits new places, so he is learning to associate it as a fun and positive experience.
And it doesn’t stop there for Teddy!
When he’s not ‘out and about’, he is at home practising his soundwork…
What a clever pup! Teddy looks so proud of himself when he finds the sound and alerts Hazel to the cooker timer. Soundwork is really fun for hearing dogs… especially because there are yummy treats involved!
After a busy week of being a superstar hearing dog in training, it’s time for Teddy to unwind and go to his favourite place… the beach!
Here he is having a super fun run around in the sand…
The beach is a great place for pups as there are so many different textures and smells to explore.
Teddy particularly loves playing in the sand as it is perfect for sniffing. It looks like Teddy thinks there is some treasure hidden here…
Even when Teddy isn’t at the beach… he’s daydreaming about being there!
That’s nearly it for now. We hope you have enjoyed hearing about Teddy’s latest adventures.
We’ll leave you with this adorable photo of Teddy looking very chilled and relaxed. He really does suit the name Teddy… he is like a fluffy teddy bear!
We’re so proud of Teddy and how well he is doing in his training to become a life-changing hearing dog.
This would not be possible without the kindness of people like you… so, from everyone at Hearing Dogs, thank you for sponsoring Teddy.
