Teddy 'out and about'
Posted by Elizabeth Murphy
Welcome back to Teddy’s Puppy Pen!
Teddy has been continuing his training in busy public places. With the help of volunteer puppy trainers Peter and Hazel, Teddy is learning to maintain his focus while ‘out and about’… and he is doing so well!
Here are Teddy and Peter walking down a local high street…
As you can see, Teddy walks very nicely on his lead and doesn't get too distracted by what is happening around him. Well done, Teddy!
He is also learning to wait patiently with Peter before crossing the road.
It is important that Teddy is confident around busy roads when he is ‘out and about’ with his future deaf partner. Crossing a busy road can be a scary experience for someone who is deaf. They might not be able to hear oncoming traffic which could place them in a potentially dangerous situation. Teddy’s burgundy jacket will hopefully alert drivers to be extra cautious.
Now into the shopping centre…
Despite the intriguing smell of food from surrounding cafés and restaurants, Teddy doesn’t get distracted or lose his focus. What a superstar!
Teddy has also been practising on public transport. Here he is on a train journey with Peter…
We hope that one day, Teddy will be able to accompany his future deaf partner on lots of train adventures! Teddy's burgundy jacket will let other passengers know that Teddy's partner is deaf and that they might not be able to hear important announcements. This will hopefully encourage other passengers to help communicate what is happening.
It’s now time for a well-deserved little café break…
As you can see, Teddy is very happy to quietly settle down in this café. Being able to calmly settle down in noisy and busy environments is a very important skill that Teddy will use most days with his future deaf partner. How exciting!
That's all for today. Teddy is doing brilliantly in his training, and we are all so proud of him. He is well on his way to becoming a hearing dog superhero!
This is all thanks to your kindness.
So, until next time, from everyone at Hearing Dogs, thank you for sponsoring Teddy!
