Teddy took the train

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Teddy has been getting out and about on public transport!

It's a big step for a little puppy, but Teddy had a great time.

Together with Volunteer Puppy Trainer Hazel, he waited patiently for the train to arrive...

... then very confidently boarded...

... then just settled himself down. No bother, no fuss.

This is so important. It means that, from now on, Teddy can travel on a train and everyone knows it won't be a problem for him at all. In turn, it means that his future deaf partner will be able to travel with their furry friend, and know they'll be well behaved and happy to come along for the ride.

As well as taking the train, Teddy's been on a bus!

It's so brilliant how calm he is throughout that entire video. There will be all sorts of strange and interesting (and, for some puppies, scary) sounds, sights and smells going on around him, but Teddy doesn't bat an eyelid. He's just interested in what's happening, but knows that he doesn't have to do anything. Just lie there and take it all in.

And now, Teddy having a bit of downtime with a hairdryer!

Again, this is really training. Hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, these can all be a bit startling for puppies, so Hazel and Peter are making sure he's acquainted with them all. He seems to absolutely adore the hairdryer!

Now, pigs.

Sometimes puppies can get a bit overexcited when they're around other animals, so again, this is fun, but also training.

We didn't know pigs can run at 11 mph! If you're ever being chased by one, don't forget, if you can run at 12 mph you'll be fine.

Teddy was fascinated by them, but, once more, ever so well behaved.

This went on for quite some time, as Teddy just stood there, processing it all. But, Peter and Hazel were happy to let him take his time. All our training is done like this: at the puppy's pace, not too fast, not too slow.

Back home now, and another well-earned rest, with a nod to what Teddy is also doing: helping raise money so that more deaf people can leave loneliness behind.

This is of course what you're helping with too, through your kindness in supporting him.

We hope you enjoyed this latest look at life with Teddy. We enjoyed putting it together. So, as always, until next time, thank you for sponsoring Teddy!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
