Toby’s awesome adventure: the finale

Oh, how time flies when you’re having fun! Loveable Toby has come a long way since his puppy days, transforming into the confident, tail-wagging wonder he is today. From those adorable, clumsy moments with his long legs and gate-crashing dolls’ tea parties to now, Toby has grown into a gentle, calm and happy dog.

This could not have happened without your kind support. Thank you so much.

Toby was the most adorable puppy! We are incredibly proud of him in his new role as a demonstration dog

Toby’s brilliant soundwork skills

When it comes to soundwork, Toby is a true superstar. He mastered the art of alerting people to important sounds, ensuring they never miss a thing. Whether it’s a doorbell chiming, an alarm ringing, or even a phone buzzing, Toby’s finely tuned ears can hear it all and guide you straight to the source.

Although Toby is a wonderful dog with a loving temperament, he needs special care because of having some digestive issues. So after careful consideration, we decided it would be best for him to remain with our charity as a demonstration dog. He’ll live with one of our experienced staff members, who will look after him and make sure he’s comfortable and happy.

Toby loves soundwork!

Our demonstration dogs play a crucial role – attending events, meeting potential supporters like you, and showing off just how clever they are. Toby will demonstrate his soundwork skills, leaving everyone in awe of his capabilities. His role helps raise awareness about the impact of hearing dogs and encourages more people to support our cause. As a demonstration dog, Toby will make a difference in the lives of not just one, but many deaf people throughout his career.

Dog training manager, Jay, explains why Toby is perfect for this role. “Toby is such a happy, loving boy who loves being around people. He’s so confident and loves being the centre of attention, which means he would thrive as a demonstration dog! He’s also brilliant at soundwork and is focused when alerting people to sounds. His skills make him ideal for showing off what a hearing dog does and why they are so important to deaf people.

Superstar Toby will demonstrate how hearing dogs can alert to life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm

“Toby will need ongoing support with his tummy because of his digestive issues. He’s on a specialist diet so having him remain in the Hearing Dogs family with a staff member, close to our training centre in Buckinghamshire, is the ideal way for us to keep an eye on his health long term.”

Toby is now living with Clare, one of our fantastic members of staff, who he’ll stay with. They have such a special connection and are living their best lives together.

Clare says: “Toby is such a lovely dog. He’s very social and outgoing, and loves meeting new people. He’s really confident in a range of different environments and we know he’ll make a wonderful demonstration dog!”

Toby: the star of the show

And so Toby’s training journey has come to an end. As a demonstration dog, he will help to raise awareness of what our dogs do and encourage people to support the Charity. Thanks to your kindness, Toby will help many deaf people in the future.

We are so grateful for your generosity. But there are still many more deaf people who need your help. It’s likely you know someone whose life has been touched by deafness, so we hope you will consider sponsoring another puppy. Either way, on behalf of everyone at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
