Toby is a supermarket settling superstar

Posted by Brendan Cooper

Toby has been doing a spot of shopping!

This is all part of his training. The sounds of supermarket trolleys clashing, and moving about, can be a bit scary. So, Toby is introduced to it all very gently. It's no problem to him, as you can see. He loves it!

Then it's a short walk into the supermarket. Notice how his lead is just right, not too tight, not too loose. He's happy walking along, at just the right pace.

Just time for a pose midway.

The flowers look nice (and smell nice too!), but Toby doesn't bother with them. He knows that, if he's a good boy, he'll get a treat and a fuss.

That's it Toby. Just take it easy!

Crisps can be very distracting. Not for Toby. He's a cool customer!

Settling at the checkout? No problem.

You see, this is what will make Toby a fantastic companion for a deaf person. They will have confidence that he will always just be happy around them, taking things in, looking after them. All the while, his burgundy coat will signal that he's with a deaf person. Just being able to live a daily life like this can totally transform a deaf person's life.

So, we've done supermarkets. Can Toby settle in a coffee shop?

He surely can! And what's more, he can even look like he's wearing the table, which is quite a neat trick.

Hang on though. Does the cake look nice?

Mmmm. It does...

... but no, Toby is going to be a good boy. He's always a good boy!

Same in restaurants. He's a settling superstar, there is no doubt.

Just as long as he's got his bowl of water, Toby's fine.

So, supermarket settling superstar Toby is doing great! This is thanks to your kindness in sponsoring him. Until next time, from all of us... thank you!

Hi, I'm Brendan. I write all your sponsor pup updates, printed and online. It's a hard life, writing about cute puppies who, with your support, will grow up to help deaf people leave loneliness behind. I am partially deaf myself, so I have some insights into the challenges deafness can bring. However, I don't have a dog of my own: I have two Maine Coon cats who are quite dog-like and take up most of my time!
