Vesper's trip to London
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Vesper has been to the Big Smoke!
Visiting places is very important for our hearing dogs during their training. When they eventually help a deaf person, we want them to be happy to go wherever their deaf partner wants to go, whether it's in public places such as libraries and supermarkets, or busy places like high streets.
So, Vesper's Volunteer Dog Trainer Debbie took her for a day trip to London to see the sights!
Vesper was absolutely fine during the train journey. As we explained in your previous update, this is because she's already been on trains with Debbie before.
However, the tube is quite different, with new smells and sounds. It didn't bother Vesper at all!
As you can see, she just settled down and went with the flow, just like a superstar hearing dog should!
On arrival at Baker Street, everything was still going well (perhaps it should be called 'Barker Street'?)
Notice how Vesper's wearing her 'I'm learning to be a hearing dog' burgundy coat. We explained how important this is in your last update. We're so pleased that it seems to suit her!
And from Ba(r)ker St on to Madame Tussauds! Here's Debbie with Vesper. Debbie looks like she's enjoying herself, and we're fairly certain that Vesper is smiling quietly to herself too.
Look how focused she is! Vesper's main point of attention is always Debbie. This is great, because it shows how attentive she'll be towards her eventual deaf partner.
And after the waxworks, a visit to a cafe!
Again, Vesper was happy just to relax and not bother anyone - but always kept her attention on Debbie.
She's a fabulous dog! She's doing so well, and is taking everything in her long, Labrador stride. Debbie is so pleased with her progress, and so are we. So should you be - she wouldn't have come this far without your help. From all of us at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - thank you for sponsoring Vesper.
