Winnie makes herself at home
Posted by Brendan Cooper
Welcome to your second Winnie Pupdate!
She's now living with volunteers Liza and Munit, who are looking after her and giving her basic training during the first year of her little puppy life. Without our amazing volunteers, we simply could not help deaf people: they give their time and energy to help raise all our hearing dog puppies.
We're thrilled to tell you that Winnie's settled in wonderfully well. Liza tells us: “She enjoys playing with the boys in the garden, and hiding under bits of duvet hanging from the bed. Any chance of a cuddle and she’s straight in there! She's a joy to have in the house."
She certainly seems to have made sure she experiences plenty of different, er, floor coverings!
She likes the kitchen floor: yes, that's fine to sleep on...
How about a bit of cardboard on top of the kitchen floor? Perfect!
A big, fluffy mat, you say? Yes, she can sleep on that too, thank you very much.
It's almost disappointing to have to sleep somewhere 'official' but hey ho, needs as must...
Winnie has also met the garden and made friends with a special stick whom, for the purposes of this Pupdate, we shall call 'Sticky'.
And finally, Winnie demonstrates she can get into things, as well as on them. Namely, a bucket.
We're not sure how long she stayed there. Probably long enough to have given it a good chew and then off again!
Did we say finally? Not quite. Winnie also has plenty of energy to expend. The above shots may have been a bit misleading: puppies do snooze, it's true (and it's so cute when they do). But they also have run-around episodes, a bit like an on/off switch.
So, switch Winnie's setting to 'on', and this is what happens...
She's doing really well, with a lovely family who are making sure she feels loved and cared for, while giving her basic training which we will show you over the coming months.
This is all thanks to you for sponsoring her. So, from all of us at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - and from Liza, and Munit, and Winnie too of course - thank you!
